Carp Diem

Fish Out of Water are a young electric folk band from the South Coast of England. A new generation of folk musicians, the band follow in the vein of bands such as Fairport Convention, The Albion Band, Strawbs, Traffic, and Trees.

Five members, aged 20-23, deliver a fresh and energetic re-imagining of traditional folk music, blending traditional and electric instruments with rock dynamics and elements of electronica. This creates a highly distinctive, original, and powerful breed of electric folk music.

The majority of the album was recorded live by Red Square Analog in the Drawing Room of Highcliffe Castle, one of the most significant remaining examples of Gothic Victorian architecture.

The album features a range of traditional folk songs, all re-imagined and re-arranged by the band, and one song, ‘Walk Awhile’, originally recorded by Fairport Convention, featuring guest appearances from Zak Hobbs and Blair Dunlop – a unique collaboration by two descendants of the early Fairport Convention lineup. Zak Hobbs is currently playing guitar with Sonny Ozell, and Blair Dunlop has just released his latest album ‘Gilded’, on Gilded Wings Records.
